Jyrki_IMG_0581_lev200px.jpgMy career as an advocate of good acoustics began 30 years ago. Nowadays, I work as a concept developer for healthcare facilities. My job title might be somewhat unusual, but simply put, my role involves promoting good acoustic environments that give staff and customers the best possible conditions for work and recovery. A noisy environment reduces job satisfaction and productivity, as well as impeding recovery. Furthermore, sound carrying reduces privacy and discussions involving confidential information may end up being audible to others. A good acoustic environment supports mental and physical well-being, economic efficiency, and the protection of privacy.

Implementation of good acoustics and a good acoustic environment requires expert acoustic planning and adherence to plans during the implementation phase. It is key that the client remembers to define at the beginning of a new construction project the requirements for ensuring the spaces work efficiently. My job involves ensuring that the developers, users, designers and builders of the facilities are familiar with how to create a pleasant acoustic environment. It is worth remembering that in most instances, good acoustics are no more expensive than bad ones.
